17/04/2019 £8,000 Hartlepool United Community Sports Foundation Hartlepool United Community Sports Foundation is a charity linked to, but independent of, Hartlepool United Football Club.  The project will be delivered across four schools in Hartlepool: High Tunstall, Dyke House, English Martyrs Catholic School and Saint Hills Church of England School. The Foundation and young leaders will develop four, physical environment, social action projects. It will work directly with 40 young people to design the projects and engage more of the school community in delivering them. The project is focused on supporting young people aged 14-16.
17/04/2019 £29,560 Equal Arts Equal Arts  is a charity based in Gateshead established to improve the lives of older people using creativity. It specialises in cross generational projects to challenge ageism, combat loneliness and isolation.  The Green Feet Friends project will work with two SEN schools and an elderly care home to create multi-sensory gardens; functional outdoor spaces where community members can meet and express themselves. The project will be supported by young people from Tyneside Metropolitan College and Dance Dynamics, an inclusive young people’s dance group in Alnwick, Northumberland.
17/04/2019 £44,298 Streetwise Young People's Project Streetwise Young People’s Project is a regional charity based in central Newcastle providing a range of free, specialist wellbeing and mental health services for young people from 11 to 25.  The #iwill Take Action grant will enable Youthwise to expand and develop the recently launched M Card allowing young women access to free sanitary products and advice on periods. Youthwise will recruit more volunteers, organise presentations and workshops and work with Brash Theatre to create a period poverty performance which will be filmed and made available for schools to use in PHSE.

12/02/2018 £50,000 Oasis Aquila Housing Oasis Aquila Housing (OAH) is a homelessness charity based in Gateshead which has run a bond scheme for the last six years. Staff from the bond scheme try to build a close relationship with the landlord, ensuring that the properties are of a reasonable standard. Staff from OAH will also help the tenant to maintain the tenancy. The Bond scheme was originally set up with funding from a national scheme run by Crisis with funding from the Big Lottery Fund. It is on target to set up 40 tenancies this year. The grant to OAH is to enable them to continue operating the scheme ibn Gateshead, increasing its reach. OAH intend to support 50 people into a sustainable tenancy as a result.
12/02/2018 £32,847 Youth Almighty Project Youth Almighty Project (YAP) is a vibrant, well attended youth project set up by local people in 2005 to serve the needs of young people living in Silksworth, in Sunderland. This grant is to enable YAP to continue to deliver their Positive Experiences Employment Programme. YAP have good working relationships with employers in the area who are keen to support this project. Intensive support is provided to those employers who provide work experience opportunities for any young people to ensure they see this as a positive experience and in the hope they may offer future employment opportunities.
12/02/2018 £27,000 The Millin Charity The Millin Charity (MC) is a community development organisation based in the West of Newcastle. MC host and support the Women’s Trading Collective (WTC) which operates through the collective, voluntary efforts of its members to design, produce and bring to market a variety of products. To date the items that the collective have produced have been handmade. These items, whilst attractive, are labour intensive and impossible to create at scale. Although it had significant value as a community development activity it could not become a sustainable business. Through the funding WTC aims to develop into a commercially viable and sustainable social business with a range of design-led products that capture the spirit of WTC, each carrying the logo ‘This Woman Means Business’.
12/02/2018 £28,450 Berwick Youth Project Berwick Youth Project (BYP) runs a youth club, an information and advice service and a supported accommodation project in Berwick Upon Tweed. Until 2016, it had 11 bed spaces to accommodate homeless young people from the town. Following the end of a long-term lease on a large property it managed in the centre of Berwick, BYP is reduced to using the six bed spaces it has on the first floor of its purpose built headquarters. The grant to BYP will enable them to continue to employ a support worker. Their role is to support existing tenants, help them to move into rented accommodation and help the increasing numbers of young people that cannot be accommodated in the centre to find and keep rented accommodation in other properties in Berwick.
12/02/2018 £49,945 The Junction Foundation The Junction Foundation (JF) is based in the Coatham area of Redcar, in one of the most deprived parts of the Country. JF have developed a particular specialism in recent years focussing on young people’s mental health. It also runs an employment programme helping young people into work. This grant is to enable JF to employ a project worker to work with 40 young people. They expect to support get 25 of these young people into sustained employment.
12/02/2018 £17,500 Blue Watch Youth Centre The BWYP is a youth project based in Ryhope which lies on the coast to the South of the Wear in Sunderland. BWYC work with young people to help them understand what employers want from them. BWYC also offers training in literacy, numeracy and IT skills. It also offers work-placements or volunteering opportunities with a range of local employers. The grant is to enable BWYP to continue their successful youth employment scheme. This year BWYC intends to recruit 45 young people onto the programme and get a further 25 into sustained employment.
12/02/2018 £20,613 700 Club The 700 Club is a community organisation based in Darlington which provides help and support to homeless people in the town. The grant is to continue to fund their bond scheme. By providing a bond as an alternative to a deposit and by working proactively with a number of local landlords, it enables people who are homeless and people who are living in the emergency accommodation run by the charity to access reasonable quality rented accommodation.
08/12/2017 £40,000 Foundation of Light The Foundation of Light is the Foundation attached to Sunderland Football Club. It provides a range of formal and informal learning programmes delivered in classrooms at the stadium, in six dedicated outreach centres, at various community centres or local schools. It will soon open the Beacon of Light, a new multi-million pound building alongside the stadium which will house a school and act as a base for the FoL’s activities. The Foundation of Light has applied for funding to run a programme within the charity’s Coaches Academy. This pairs disadvantaged young people with fully-qualified coaches providing football training sessions as part of the FoL’s community coaching programme. The learners gain a range of practical qualifications and skills which will help them pursue a career in the sports coaching industry.
08/12/2017 £49,373 Hartlepool Citizens Advice Bureau Hartlepool Citizens Advice Bureau was set up in 1939. It provides a range of advice, advocacy and support services for the local community including; debt and personal finance, budgeting and money management, housing and homelessness, welfare benefits and tax credits, employment rights, consumer law and energy and fuel supplies. A second award from the Foundation will enable the project to continue to provide housing advice and enable 55 households to move into rented accommodation at a time of increasing demand due, in the main, to the impact of the introduction of Universal Credit. Over the last year HCAB has also developed a close relationship with the Virgin Money branch in Hartlepool.
08/12/2017 £49,702 YMCA North Tyneside YMCA North Tyneside owns a large building in North Tyneside which has been recently refurbished. It runs a large well equipped gym with a café, provides training and education, support to families and young people and emergency accommodation for young homeless people, many of whom have just left local authority care. Last year it was awarded £41,393 to employ one full-time tenancy officer and to provide additional sessional worker support to enable the young people it houses to better manage their tenancies and to help them to secure and maintain move-on accommodation. To continue this activity it has applied to the Foundation for £49,702 to run an employment programme and to employ a part-time Enterprise Development Manager to support the increasing number of social enterprises owned and run by the charity.
08/12/2017 £48,989 Bright Futures Bright Futures is a young, ambitious project providing a wealth of practical help and support to the most vulnerable young women and their children in South Shields. Bright Futures has been working with Northumbria Police to provide support to around 90 young women who have been the victims of sexual abuse uncovered through Operation Sanctuary which hit the national press with the prosecution of 18 people from the West End of Newcastle. Bright Futures is also working with a smaller group of trafficked young women. The award will enable them to provide a more intensive programme of employment support to 30 of these young women of which it expects to get 15 into sustainable employment.
08/12/2017 £40,210 Handcrafted Projects Handcrafted Projects provides work experience and training in carpentry and landscaping for disadvantaged and socially excluded people in and around Durham City. It developed a relationship with a Christian property fund which enabled the charity to refurbish and rent out properties to its clients and had applied to the Foundation for support to develop this aspect of its work. It has reapplied to the Foundation for a second award of £40,210 to cover the cost of employing staff to expand its housing portfolio working around hubs in Durham, Chester-le- Street, Gateshead and Stockton-On-Tees
08/12/2017 £45,600 A690 Youth Initiative A690 is a youth project operating in the West of Sunderland. Last year it successfully applied to the Foundation for £41,733 to employ two part-time support workers to work with a group of around 60 young people who are not in employment, education or training. It is currently ahead of target having helped 33 young people secure employment. A690 has reapplied for continuation funding of £45,600 with a proposal to get 38 young people into sustainable employment over the year. This is a well-established youth project with a history of innovation. The two young workers who are employed are energetic and committed to the programme.
28/11/2017 £300,000 Northern Theatre Trust Ltd Live Theatre is an award winning playwriting theatre in Newcastle. The award is to enable them to replicate their successful Live Tales programme into the Music, Arts and Culture quarter in Sunderland, an area undergoing arts led regeneration. This Ripple Fund award comprises both capital and revenue funding for Live Tales and a partnership with Virgin Money Foundation focused upon regeneration in Sunderland that benefits local young people and evidences the multiple secondary benefits of their work.
