Bipolar UK is dedicated to supporting individuals with the devastating condition Bipolar Disorder through a programme of integrated peer support services involving groups, online forum and telephone and email check-in . 2. Our project will help more local people in the county facing unprecedented pressures and anxieties wrought by coronavirus crisis to peer support each other and share and pursue daily management plans to live better with the condition daily; this group are among the most marginalised and vulnerable members of society, being as they are 20 times predisposed to suicide ideation and typically on low or no income. 3. We would be grateful if the foundation might consider a £4348 grant towards our 2 Cheshire Bipolar Video Peer Support Groups to conduct 12 monthly 2 hour meetings via the Zoom platform utilising necessary equipment. This grant to run the project for a year will also cover safeguarding, volunteer and training costs (please see budget below for for more detail). 4. Providing an instantly amenable space to talk about their condition, the project will make a life-saving difference for attendees’ through promoting best self-management (and advice around coronavirus) to stay well and avoid catastrophic ideation and action. The meetings will be open to anyone affected by bipolar disorder including people with a diagnosis those pre-diagnosis family members friends and carers. Groups will meet monthly and will be facilitated by DBS-checked and trained volunteers with support from Bipolar UK. £24314 over 12 months will contribute to staff IT equipment training DBS checks marketing and evaluation. The grant funding provided a period of support for charities providing vital services to ensure they could meet increased demand as a result of COVID-19, while continuing their day-to-day activities to help those in need, up to the end of October 2021. Each organisation was either:Providing key services specific to supporting the Covid-19 response, to reduce burden on the NHS or other public services; orProviding critical frontline services to vulnerable groups affected by Covid-19 and associated measures (ie. social-distancing) (must outline the characteristics that make those groups vulnerable).

According to research conducted by Bipolar UK (the only charity specifically focused on bipolar) there are 1.3 million people living with bipolar in the UK. They propose a chatbot that helps users self manage but also provides critical advice. The chatbot combines machine learning with the informed research from Bipolar UK, by giving answers, prompts and signposting users to information. This funding will scale up the chatbot by installing it on the website, integrating it with services, so people can book a call with a volunteer or attend a group, and ensure staff with lived experience can keep it up dated.
