BLAP provides wonderful play opportunities. The choice of activities means all children can flourish including those with autism. The play equipment needs maintenance, and the grass needs cutting.

The funding will be used to employ a support worker to coordinate and deliver support for children and families in the Blackbird Leys area of Oxford. The project aims to provide a more coordinated support service for the community to ensure activities and services are appropriate and relevant to the community.

BLAP appreciates many needs on our estate, exacerbated by the pandemic, will get worse if the financial situation worsens. We have 3 arms of our work: The Holiday work The monthly Family Saturday work. The After School work, We have funding for the first two but now need to ensure we have enough funding for the after school work that is the backbone of all we do. We believe the work we do to be life changing for some and life enhancing for most (we have 150 on the books and often have 30+ a session). We would like to ask for a grant of £8966 to pay the part of the salary that is linked to the After School work, for two of our four workers. We are also asking for operational costs of £1034 to cover : Gold award prizes Telephone costs including group texts, Computer support Activity resources for cooking, arts and crafts and gardening. Communication with parents is essential but many parents do not have access to emails. so texting is better. We need computers and printing ability to provide, for instance, attractive evaluation exercise to see whether we are meeting the children and family needs. Resources for activities are important too. A recent evaluation showed children recognised that staff listen to them. We are aware in households where they are living in crisis it is not always easy to find time to listen to the children's needs. We are very grateful for our volunteers who bring with them a skill in communicating with the children that we know and appreciate. Children love to chat with them. However it is important to have the consistency that the staff bring to BLAP. They are there every day and know the backgrounds of the children.

This two-year project enables families from the Blackbird Leys housing estate in Oxford to benefit from adventure playground facilities on the first Saturday of the month. Families have access to a place where they can enjoy being together in a safe environment with staff on hand to listen. The playground provides families with space to relax and discover the joy of being outside together. Different physical challenges will be set each month to provide a fun chance for whole families to enter and be involved together. The space includes access to the adjacent school playing field for rounders and other games. Participants are encouraged to give feedback on the sessions in order to shape development of the programme of activities.

We would like to welcome parents and younger children to join us on Fridays. BLAP children will cook food and serve it. Sarah, our play and project leader, will be free to mingle and be a listening ear. Parents can relax, chat with other parents and gain support.

We welcome local people who originally lived further afield to teach our young people how to cook food from their home countries. Children are loving the experience and the food!

The project will use funding to raise awareness of cultural diversity that exists within the local community.

We work with 8-13 year olds and our Junior Leaders who are 14+ We usually have about 12 new junior leaders a year These have the option to take part in the Junior Leader training run by Oxfordshire youth -which leads to a level 2 qualification in Leadership and Team Building With your funds this could ensure we can train all junior leaders

The organisation will use the funding to run and promote new events for the local community, in order to bring families and children together.
