Vista aims to improve the life-chances and coping mechanisms of families following their child’s diagnosis of sight loss, helping them come to terms with the transition and move forward with raised aspirations and opportunities. Its family support service has been established for five years working with five hospitals in the area. It provides an advocacy and wrap-around support service with staff working closely with each child and family to help ensure their needs are met at hospital, school and at home.

However, this is limited to what one person can organise and deliver over a 7 day programme to 46 residents.Care staff and ancillary staff are not involved in this programme as their roles are confined to specific aspects of their jobs, such as care delivery, housekeeping, catering and gardening.

It aims to provide a befriending support network for 120 people with sight loss to reduce social isolation, promote increased independence, improve self confidence, health and emotional well-being of people and to empower these beneficiaries to access local social and leisure activities and play an active role in their local community.
