This 23-month programme provides weekly health and wellbeing sessions to local women, from Thornton Lodge in Huddersfield, particularly those of Pakistani origin aged 25-60 who are experiencing mental health issues and with limited English. The project responds to the recent spike in mental health issue within the community and provides arts and crafts activities, conversational English, exercise and peer support, as well as helping to address language and cultural barriers to accessing support. Guest speakers, practitioners, professionals from different agencies are invited so they can hear the voices of BAME women and make their services more accessible. Participants develop confidence, improve their English language skills, and find new friendships and support. They contribute ideas for the activities they wish to run during the sessions.

The fund was set up in 2017/18 to support community projects which reduce knife crime and have a positive impact on young people at risk of carrying a knife and committing crime. The fund was open to voluntary and community sector groups and the Home Office made up to £800,000 available in 2017 to 2018.A second round of the fund was announced in the Serious Violence Strategy, launched by the Home Secretary on 9 April 2018.In 2018/19 were are increasing this fund to £1.56 million pound for 68 projects.

The aim of this new project in Huddersfield which is based on a pilot is to involve members of the Thornton Lodge Action Group's (TLAG) community who are furthest away from education to up skill through community based provision with the long-term goal of improving their access to mainstream learning services. The majority of beneficiaries will be British adults of Pakistani background aged between 18 and 65. They will typically have little or no qualifications, low motivation and self-esteem.
