We reopened following an award-winning 3-year £12m restoration, doubled visitor numbers, presented a bold programme of contemporary exhibitions, raised our profile nationally and deepened our engagement with our local Ealing community, one of Londons most diverse boroughs.Pitzhanger is significant as a building designed and lived in by influential British architect Sir John Soane who built it as his dream country villa between 1800-1804. The renewal breathed new life into the Manor following a century of institutional use, returning it to Soanes idiosyncratic design.The Historic England grant supports our forthcoming year-long exhibition (Nov 20 Nov 21) exploring the restoration of PMG, Soane Restored, and associated Learning programmes: Schools Workshops and a Public Programme contributing to the recovery of the heritage sector and promote the value of our heritage through celebrating the fascinating crafts skills involved, which risk dying out.The project will engage four audiences: schools, young people interested in pursuing careers in the restoration of historic buildings, community partnerships and older people. The project will involve curatorial design of the exhibition, display of objects, development of series of Schools Workshops and public events, dissemination and archival of content.
