Kairos is applying to this grant programme to run two different bi-weekly peer support groups for our service users (women who are at risk of sexual exploitation). The groups aim to meet our service-users personal development needs as they move towards self-reliance and independence. The two groups are for:1) Women exiting street-based prostitution2) Young women (aged 18-24) who are at risk of sexual exploitationPlease note: we know the planned beneficiary numbers are lower than MIND's target numbers of 35 people per year. The process for women exiting prostitution is long, slow and complex, and numbers of women attending this support group tend to be very low because of delicate nature of their recovery. No other organisation in Coventry is delivering specialist local options to help women exiting prostitution sustain their recovery and we believe higher cost per woman is worth it.The groups aim to increase women's mental wellbeing, improve confidence, reduce isolation, teach new skills. Sessions take place in three terms throughout the year and include practical and therapeutic elements to encourage self reflection and confidence building. This can include: cooking on a budget, looking at personal identity, arts and craft and poetry/creative writing as well as some group outings e.g. Christmas outing to London, summer activities at a local waterpark. The group sessions are tailored to the women who are in the group, based on their preferences, experiences and needs (e.g. levels of confidence when entering the group, levels of literacy, any learning difficulties).
