It will create a Lead Volunteer Manager role to manage volunteers and recruit more to enable them to support migrants/refugees from a wide range of backgrounds/cultures. The project will support them to understand British systems and processes and access programmes activities and befriending support.

This two-year project extended the provision of fortnightly sessions for refugees, migrants and asylum seekers in Leicester. Participants had the opportunity to discuss common concerns around tension, discrimination and inequalities, and engaged in voluntary work, to learn about different cultures through food, music and storytelling, and made new friends. Participants shaped the project by providing feedback and ideas for the programme to the management committee that met monthly.

The group will support vulnerable and socially excluded communities in response to greater demand for support in critical situations where individuals are facing homelessness and poverty. A befriending service will be introduced to meet the needs of socially isolated individuals and will improve their social interaction.
