Build social networks for women and girls The groups provide the girls with a unique opportunity to explore issues with one another. This has created really positive interaction: sharing of perspectives between different ages, and a protective sense from older girls towards the younger. We have already seen a beneficial spillover outside of the group. One 14 year old, who was originally referred because of anxiety and as a victim of bullying, now provides informal peer mentoring to Y7 girls in her school. Participants also benefit from connections to supportive and enabling organisations. The coach from the She Rallies tennis event was inspired to offer one older girl to access a first-stage coaching training session and work experience supporting children's tennis sessions. Measurable outcomes: better relationships with peers, at home, and in the community; engagement with education or employment. Build skills & confidence The activity sessions also help girls to develop new skills and new-found confidence, which in turn lead to greater engagement with work and learning - another consistent impact we have observed. Outcomes from last year included choreographing a dance and performing to their friends and family; producing their own film about supporting vulnerable girls, and speaking on stage to 50 professionals at our conference. Measurable outcomes: increased confidence & self-esteem; engagement with education/employment; emotional literacy Health & well-being The Girls Group directly enhances health and well-being through its programme content. Topics explored in previous sessions include: body image, self-esteem, health, period poverty, women in the media, yoga and healthy cookery. Dance and tennis activities have supported girls to take part in physical activities that they may have avoided in other settings due to body image and confidence issues, and offered alternatives to social media engagement and computer gaming. Measurable outcomes: improvements in physical and emotional well-being.
