The funding will cover the initial set up and two years running of a Nepalese community centre in a deprived ward in Folkstone on the Kent Coast where there is a significant Nepalese and Gurkha community. The Nepalese community will be the primary users of the community centre but it will be open to the whole community. The partnership is also supported by Folkestone & Hythe District Council. The centre will also welcome members of the wider community and thereby facilitate deeper understanding of Nepalese history and culture and foster integration.

This proposal will provide an opportunity to map and work towards offering a support service to volunteer led organisations (VIO) by responding to the needs of the communities they represent. The overall ambition of this proposal is to transition KCV as an infrastructure organisation to support organisations further and strengthen their own ability and sustainability to offer infrastructure support.

The aim of this project is to reduce isolation and enable disabled older and vulnerable people to remain in their own homes by providing a volunteer befriending scheme. The project will provide friendly visits, dog walking, shopping help, odd jobs around the house or garden etc. The project will provide information drop in sessions for people at venues all over the Thanet area and weekly social activity afternoons. The project will also engage, train and develop volunteers to get involved in outreach work.
