The Foundation of Light is the Foundation attached to Sunderland Football Club. It provides a range of formal and informal learning programmes delivered in classrooms at the stadium, in six dedicated outreach centres, at various community centres or local schools. It will soon open the Beacon of Light, a new multi-million pound building alongside the stadium which will house a school and act as a base for the FoL?s activities.The Foundation of Light has applied for funding to run a programme within the charity?s Coaches Academy. This pairs disadvantaged young people with fully-qualified coaches providing football training sessions as part of the FoL?s community coaching programme. The learners gain a range of practical qualifications and skills which will help them pursue a career in the sports coaching industry.

The family will identify a 'neighbourhood friend' who may be a family member who will receive training and supervision to support and assist the family through an action plan.
