INDEPENDENCE INITIATIVE LIMITED

We support the long term recovery and reintegration of the most socially excluded members of society across Merseyside. We provide individually tailored packages to assist with re-entry into mainstream activities such as employment, education, or voluntary work. This is all delivered on a one-to-one basis to ensure that every individual can achieve a positive outcome shaped by them.

We will recruit women with lived experience of mental ill-health, trauma, criminal justice system and substance misuse to develop skills in 2 key areas of peer support. Firstly as 'Peer Navigators' - offering support, assistance, information and a listening ear for women as they navigate the often complex and rule-bound systems of health, welfare and social care that are relevant to progress and recovery. The frustrations and anxieties experienced by many women attempting to access services and support that is often silo-based are well documented and immersion in 'the system' ensures that many women become genuine 'experts by experience' - we will build on this, refine their knowledge and skills and develop core mentoring skills amongst this group.Secondly, as 'Community Coaches' offering coaching support to women that is more outward facing. This group of peers will be focused on building links to and within the wider community, supporting people to identify and act on personal goals, assisting them to 'move on' perhaps to college or into volunteering or maybe accompanying them to self-help or mutual aid groups. This may extend to re-development of appropriate family or friends links.
